Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Starting a new journey is a big deal.
You may have some questions before you decide to work with me.

This information is updated regularly. If you don’t see the answer to your question here, please feel free to send me an email or schedule a phone consultation!

  • Therapy can help you work toward your goals, while acknowledging where you’ve been. Working with a therapist can help you sort out what’s working and what isn’t working from the noise of everyday life. We look at who you are, what your goals are and how therapy can support you through the journey of this season of your life.

  • Teletherapy is essentially the same as an in-office appointment but from the comfort of your own home! I use a confidential, HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform. Please log in 5-10 minutes before the session starts, where you will join the virtual waiting room. At the time of the appointment, I will start the video session.

  • Therapy doesn’t have to be a scary process. Yes, it will be difficult at times, but we will also laugh a lot. I love getting to know someone’s story and helping figure out patterns and stuck thoughts that are holding them back from the growth they are looking for. I love walking the path with a person while they navigate relationships, life challenges, and understanding themselves and their needs better.

  • After the consultation appointment you will receive an email from helloalma.com with an invitation to the client portal and new document request. Once you are signed in the portal, you will have access to intake paperwork, and will be asked to provide insurance information (if applicable). Initial paperwork includes forms basics of this practice (consent to treat, privacy policy, cancellation policy, etc,) as well as some assessments. They should take about 30 minutes to complete. Please complete those forms at least 48 hours before the session, so I have time to review responses.

  • Starting therapy or starting with a new therapist can be intimidating. Meeting for an initial 15-minute consultation can help us determine what your goals are and if we are a good fit. I value the transformative process of therapy so much, and I want you to have a provider that fits your needs. If we decide that we aren’t a good fit, I will provide referrals to other providers.

  • I am not able to offer sliding scale option, but I do accept several insurance plans.

  • Session length: Most sessions are 50-55 minutes long on a weekly basis. Why? Because research shows that this is the best way to meet goals and affect positive changes in your life.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged the cancellation fee. I offer sessions through our HIPAA-compliant video system, Zoom. You can use Zoom over your phone or your computer. I will email you the specific secure waiting room link prior to the appointment.

  • Yes, therapy is completely confidential. This means that your personal information and what you share in therapy cannot be shared without your consent. However, there are a few times when confidentiality must be broken in the interest of protecting you, others, or for legal reasons. These are rare but could include:

-Imminent threat emergencies, including threats of suicide and homicide

-Mandated reporting of situations involving abuse/neglect of a minor, individual, or elderly person

    -Court mandates or subpoenas

  • Appointments must be canceled at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance, or you will be responsible for $100 cancellation fee for the missed visit.  Sessions not logged into within the first 10 minutes will be considered a missed appointment. Missed appointments are not covered by insurance, so you will be responsible for the fee.
